Ambassador Interview
What keeps you inspired to continue to train and be disciplined in your sport?
My love for skiing was always inspired by nature. All the tough work and ups and down were always worth the training and discipline because it meant that I could go outside and do what I love for my job.
What is a piece of advice you would pass along to generations who aspire to follow in your footsteps?
My advice is to always follow your passion, listen to your intuition and fight for what you believe in! I always try to measure my success in smiles not achievements, but you need the goals there to inspire you to fight harder and always do your best.
Please share a fond memory of your time at the Olympics or another race/competition you competed in.
The Olympics were always really special to me, especially because I grew up in Olympic Valley. The Olympic rings inspired me to make that goal and dream of someday competing in the Olympics. When I walked into the opening ceremony of the Salt Lake City Olympics, being the home team and hearing the 60’000 people explode into cheers was such a surreal moment. It really taught me that it wasn’t about the competition it was about participation and how sports can really change the world for the better and bring people together to inspire hope.
What is one thing you always did before a race/competition?
I used to always do energy work and imagine myself as a ball of light. I believe our cells function better when they are flooded with positive energy, so I would do that as well as focus on everything that brought me joy to my life.
What is something people don’t know about you and would surprise them?
People are always surprised that there is snow in California. And then when I moved to Hawaii that was even harder to believe, that a skier could live in the tropics. What I think most people don’t know is how time intense ski racing is. From when I was 15 years old until I retired, I would spend 8 months on the road skiing with the team and going to competitions, so I always wanted somewhere I could completely check out, and reset.
Why are you excited about supporting the SNOW Museum?
I am excited about the snow museum because the history and culture of the Olympics is so prevalent in our area and there are so many incredible athletes that have come from here as well. I think it will be amazing to have a place to share more stories and help the legacy live on to inspire even more people that anything is possible.
