Ambassador Interview

What keeps you inspired to continue to train and be disciplined in your sport?

I always enjoyed working really hard to become better. When I was competing, it was difficult to relax at the end of the day unless I knew I gave it my all. Being an athlete was definitely the easiest job I’ve ever had.

What is a piece of advice you would pass along to generations who aspire to follow in your footsteps?

Never look back and wish, I should have tried a bit harder. Learn to enjoy the process of training and improving.

Please share a fond memory of your time at the Olympics or another race/competition you competed in.

When I marched in the opening ceremonies in Calgary 1988, I knew my mom was watching from the stands. It definitely felt good to know how proud she was.

What is one thing you always do before a race/competition?

There is a lot to think about on race day, but just like every smart skier on the way to the mountain, you always take a moment to remember: “boots, skis, poles, helmet, goggles, gloves!”

What is something people don’t know about you and would surprise them?

My mom gave me a watch and taught me how to tell time, so after I skied by myself all morning, I wouldn’t miss the bus to afternoon kindergarten.

What is one thing the SNOW Museum can do right now to support you?

Apple pie?

Why are you excited about supporting the SNOW Museum?

Both sport and history bring people together. Let’s make it happen!
