Ambassador Interview
What keeps you inspired to continue to train and be disciplined in your sport?
I was extremely competitive both in training and in racing. I loved to push myself and was always striving to be faster.
What is a piece of advice you would pass along to generations who aspire to follow in your footsteps?
I am currently a coach and always remind athletes that it’s up to them to put in the work to be successful – it doesn’t happen magically and it doesn’t happen quickly. It takes a lot of time, dedication, hard work, and drive to be competitive – and then to become one of the best in the world comes from the willingness to put in the time on your own time, not just when you are asked to. So, if an athlete aspires to get to the Olympics, I would advise them to be patient, believe in themselves, and trust the process.
Please share a fond memory of your time at the Olympics or another race/competition you competed in.
I was lucky enough to compete for Canada in Canada and one of my fondest memories was watching Canada win the Hockey final on the night of the closing ceremonies with a bunch of Canadian athletes, in “Canada House.” The energy and excitement in that moment, followed by an amazing closing ceremonies really made it all feel like a dream come true.
What is one thing you always do before a race/competition?
I always tried to see / visualize myself having a great run.
What is something people don’t know about you and would surprise them?
I can lick my elbow.
Why are you excited about supporting the SNOW Museum?
I think that the Olympics and the Olympic history here are worth celebrating. It is worth continuing to pass along and share the Olympic ideals, and strive to live up to the spirit of the Olympics in our community.
